Mario Picardo

Born 1985, France. Lives and works: Paris, France.

Mario Picardo is an artist whose works are deeply influenced by his background in semiology, American painting, and the popular culture of the 1990s. He photographs and films various aspects of urban life, collecting traces of society that serve as a foundation for his artistic creations. Picardo grew up alongside his father, a house painter, while during his time spent in his father's truck, which served as a mobile studio, he cultivated an appreciation for the optimization and recycling of materials and spaces. This experience instilled in him a preference for building materials like polyurethane, which he often uses in his art, favoring them over traditional fine art materials.

Picardo's artistic process involves capturing everyday objects and scenes — ranging from food wrappers to abandoned items — during his urban explorations. These collected elements contribute to a personal library of signs and forms that inform his paintings. In his studio, he transforms these inspirations into large canvases and patchworks, utilizing a vibrant color palette that contrasts with more subdued elements. His work reflects a commitment to elevating craftsmanship to the level of fine art, showcasing his meticulous approach and innovative use of materials.
