Ryan Schneider
Works and lived in Joshua Tree in CA, Schneider an oil painter from a young age, he has over time shifted his artistic focus to creating sculptures primarily out of wood using chainsaws, chisels, paint and other tools to create distinct works. Schneider spent 14 years living and working in New York City before relocating to Joshua Tree, California in 2015.
Schneider's artistic practice is deeply rooted in the natural environment, particularly in the ecosystem of his current residence, Joshua Tree National Park. His wooden sculptures exhibit a powerful spirituality, blending elements of Native American mythology with influences from German Expressionism. Using oil pigment sticks to color his wooden sculptures, his works feature sharp angles and vivid colors, expressing both the gentleness of the natural world and humanity's primal instincts.
His creations emanate a sacred quality that resonates with pre-Christian traditions, imbuing his works with totemic and meditative characteristics. His works are included in several significant collections worldwide, including the Palm Springs Museum of Art, Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art (Rizhao, China), and the Hall Art Foundation.
