このたびAISHOでは、北島麻里子による個展 「Axial Tilt」 を、8月20日（木）から9月19日（土）まで開催いたします。＊本展覧会はSUNNYESとの共同企画になります。
北島麻里子は1987年埼玉県生まれ。2014年に東京造形大学造形学部美術学科絵画専攻を卒業し、現在は東京を拠点に活動しています。
北島は静物画を中心に制作し、ガラスの花瓶や果物、花など身近なモチーフを、緻密な描写と鮮やかな色彩で描き出しています。同時に、「Self（自己）」を一貫したテーマとして掲げ、画面に存在するガラスや静物、反射面に、過去の経験や記憶によって形成されたさまざまな「私」を投影しています。その作品は、鑑賞者が「自己とは何か」という問いに向き合う契機を生み出しています。
本展 「Axial Tilt（地軸の傾き）」 では、「もし地球の地軸が傾いていなかったら」という仮説を起点に、自己と他者の新たな輪郭を提示します。
もし地軸が傾いていなければ、この世界に季節の巡りは訪れず、均一で固定された昼と夜だけが繰り返されていたでしょう。変化も揺らぎもない、完璧に均衡が保たれた静止した世界。そこには、不安定さに伴う危うさは存在しない一方で、生命が織りなす予期せぬ美しさや豊かさも生まれ得なかったはずです。
しかし現実には、わずかな傾きがあるからこそ光は複雑に屈折し、気候は変化し、世界は絶えず姿を変え続けています。私たちが生きる社会もまた同様に、不安定な構造の上に成り立ち、誰もがその危うい均衡のなかで、かろうじて保たれた平穏を生きています。
人間は不安定であり、不完全な存在です。しかし、その危うさを抱えているからこそ、私たちは他者とつながり、問い続け、生きていくことができます。では、「完全」という幻想を手放したとき、関係性のなかで揺らぎ続ける自己の輪郭は、どのように立ち現れるのでしょうか。
本展は、その「傾き」の先に見えてくる、人間の新たな輪郭を模索する試みです。
初日の8月20日（木）には、作家を迎えてオープニングレセプションを開催いたします。

AISHO is pleased to present Axial Tilt, a solo exhibition by Mariko Kitajima, on view from August 20 through September 19. ＊This exhibition is presented in collaboration with SUNNYES.
Born in Saitama in 1987, Mariko Kitajima graduated from the Department of Fine Arts (Painting), Tokyo Zokei University, in 2014. She currently lives and works in Tokyo.
Kitajima's practice centers on still-life painting, depicting familiar subjects such as glass vases, fruit, and flowers with meticulous realism and luminous color. Running throughout her work is the recurring theme of "Self." Reflections in glass, the surfaces of everyday objects, and the pictorial space itself become sites onto which multiple versions of the self—formed through accumulated memories and lived experiences—are projected. Her paintings invite viewers to contemplate the question of what constitutes one's identity.
In Axial Tilt, Kitajima begins with a simple yet profound proposition: What if the Earth had no axial tilt? Through this hypothetical world, she explores new ways of understanding the boundaries between self and others.
Without the Earth's axial tilt, there would be no changing seasons—only an endless repetition of equal days and nights. It would be a world of perfect equilibrium, free from fluctuation and instability. Such a world might be devoid of uncertainty, yet it would also lack the unexpected beauty and richness that emerge through the dynamic processes of life.
Our reality, however, is shaped by a slight inclination. Because the Earth tilts, light refracts in complex ways, climates shift, and the world is in a constant state of transformation. Human society functions in much the same way. We inhabit an inherently unstable structure, where fragile balances sustain the appearance of stability.
Human beings are imperfect and fundamentally unstable. Yet it is precisely this instability that allows us to connect with others, to continue questioning, and ultimately to live. If we let go of the illusion of perfection, how might the contours of the self—continually reshaped through relationships with others—begin to appear?
Axial Tilt is an exploration of the new contours of humanity that emerge from this very inclination.
